Who is our SENDCo and what is their role?

SENCo stands for Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Each school operates under a Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy, guided by the framework established in Part 3 of the Children and Families Act, 2014. The SENCo is responsible for coordinating additional support for pupils with special educational needs, ensuring that their individual needs are met effectively.

At The Yellow House School, Chloe serves as the SENCo, overseeing the SEN provision for all students enrolled at the school. Her role is crucial in creating an inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of our pupils.

Chloe's Responsibilities as SENCo Include:
  • Managing Annual Reviews: Coordinating and conducting annual reviews to assess and update each pupil's progress and support requirements.
  • Preparing Reports for Statutory Assessments: Compiling comprehensive reports for statutory assessments to ensure that pupils receive the necessary support and accommodations.
  • Maintaining the SEN Register and Pupil Summaries: Keeping an up-to-date SEN register and creating detailed summaries for each pupil, outlining their specific needs and support strategies.
  • Liaising with Therapeutic Staff: Collaborating with therapeutic staff to integrate their insights and recommendations into the educational plans for pupils.
  • Communicating with External Agencies: Engaging with external agencies, including Educational Psychology services, legal services, and educational authorities, to coordinate additional support and resources for pupils.
  • Participating in the Admissions Process: Actively participating in the admissions process, assessing prospective pupils' needs and ensuring appropriate support is in place from the start.
  • Advising on Transitions to Post-16 Education: Providing guidance and support for pupils transitioning to post-16 education, helping them navigate their options and prepare for their next steps.
  • Supporting Tutors: Advising and supporting teaching staff regarding the needs of individual pupils, ensuring that appropriate strategies are implemented in the classroom.
  • Promoting Effective Teaching: Advocating for teaching practices that align with our objectives and meet the diverse learning needs of all pupils.
